Food Packaging

Kempner has an extremely broad customer base of food manufacturers and processors.

Applications include meat, fish, shellfish, eggs, fruit and vegetables, ready meals including pizza, bakery and cakes.

Generally, shrink wrap as a medium, is not used to extend shelf life by a significant degree; there are other packaging methods that offer long product life.

Rather, shrink films extend shelf life by a limited amount, when in conjunction with chill or deep freeze temperatures.

Food Packaging Machinery

As regards food Packaging Machinery, the user needs only to consider both the pack size and the ultimate production rate desired, to be able to refine a decision on the correct shrink wrap equipment to be used. The Bubble or Chamber is an ideal, entry-level machine, offering a pack yield around 200 units per hour; a greater quantity may be achieved - this depends on the pack complexity and the operator's competence.

High Food Packaging Speeds

Semi-Automatic L-Sealer

A higher packaging speed will be achieved with a semi-automatic L sealers feeding a compatible shrink tunnel; up to 15 packs per minute can be produced, although the higher rates require the pack to be light, low-profile and easily handled by a competent and motivated user. A conservative output rate can be considered to be 8 to 10 packs per minute.

Automatic L-Sealer

The fully automatic L sealers offers up to 30 packs per minute; Kempner's machines have a number of features to improve output rates. Again, it is appropriate to use Kempner's demonstration and pack - proving facilities so that a good appreciation of the likely average production speed can be gained. The higher rates require the pack to be relatively short as well as low profile. 20 packs per minute may be considered to be normally achievable although the user is invited, once more, to use Kempner's showrooms to establish a rate for the pack to be wrapped. The high end of output rates is offered by Kempner's side sealers. These are two belt or intermittent motion or three belt or continuous motion machines. Rates can run up to 80 packs per minute. With these applications, detailed trials are also used to allow an accurate evaluation of the likely output speed to be made.

Shrink Films

shrink film selection needs to be made with a specific view to the end use and in particular, any requirement to extend the shelf life of the product and the conditioning of the product after wrapping.

It is useful to consider specific applications as these provide valuable guidance for end users.

Vegetables packaging

  
Food packaging - Vegetables - broccoli, swedes, cabbage Vegetables packaging - swedes are directly wrapped in Clysar HP Gold as well as Ultra SPLN. Broccoli is wrapped in Ultra SPF - an ultra strong, anti-fog shrink film designed to offer the best possible cost effectiveness. Additional applications include endive and cabbage, which require standard as well as anti-fog film.
   
 

Ready meals

  
Food packaging - Ready meals - pizzas Ready meals packaging include pizza - Clysar EZ Gold is ideal for this application as it has exceptional machineability offering particularly fast production rates coupled with superb presentation characteristics. Other applications include pre-prepared meals where Ultra RL is used.
   
 

Bakery packaging
